Manchester City loses again ⚽️

The 4-time defending champions of the English Premier League lost their 5th consecutive match on Saturday when they were beaten 4-0 by Tottenham Hotspur.

Why is this significant?
Let’s break it down.

  • Let’s face it: people love rooting for a team until they become too successful—and then we enjoy watching them fall. Right now, it seems everyone (except Man City fans) is relishing their struggles.

  • Losing 5 games in a row is shocking for a team that has dominated English football, winning 4 consecutive Premier League titles and 6 of the last 7.

  • After just 12 Premier League games this season, City has already lost 3—matching their total losses from the entire 2023/24 season (38 games).

  • Their most recent defeat came at the Etihad, a fortress where they hadn’t lost since November 2022, when Brentford pulled off a shock victory.

  • Adding to the drama, Pep Guardiola signed a contract extension on 21 November—just two days before a crushing loss to Spurs.

  • This marks the first time in Guardiola’s legendary coaching career that he has lost 5 consecutive games.

The Headlines

Start of the Ruben Amorim Era

Ruben Amorim’s much anticipated first game in charge of Manchester United took place on Sunday when Man Utd travelled to newly promoted Ipswich Town.

Expectations were high and the game got off to a dream start with Marcus Rasford scoring after only 81 seconds. Ipswich, however, fought back to level the score and the match ended in a frustrating 1-1 draw.

Not the commanding win fans had hoped for, but at least it wasn’t a loss. The big question remains: can Amorim bring his magic to a struggling United? Only time will tell.

Shirtless Salah

Liverpool found themselves trailing 2-1 to Southampton with just 30 minutes to play. Enter Mo Salah. The Egyptian stepped up with a stunning brace, securing a crucial 3-2 victory and keeping Liverpool 8 points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Salah has now scored 10 league goals this season, second only to Erling Haaland.

Fun fact: of the 9 yellow cards Salah has received in his Premier League career, 5 were for celebrating goals by taking off his shirt.

Champions League Action

The UEFA Champions League returns for Gameweek 5, with matches tonight and tomorrow. This week features two blockbuster clashes—both rematches of recent finals.

Bayern Munich vs PSG
Tonight, Bayern Munich face PSG in a thrilling rematch of the 2019/20 Champions League final. Back then, Bayern clinched a narrow 1-0 victory to lift the trophy. Expect a fiery encounter as these two giants go head-to-head once more.

Liverpool vs Real Madrid
Tomorrow, Real Madrid travel to Anfield to take on a red-hot Liverpool side sitting atop the Champions League League Phase Table after four consecutive wins. This showdown revisits the 2021/22 final, where Madrid edged Liverpool 1-0. With Liverpool in top form, can Madrid repeat history?
